December Update

What happened to me making more regular posts?  Well we had a very fun and busy month of December.  Bonne Maman came to visit in the beginning of the month and was a huge help with the boys.  They loved playing with her and Mason learned a few new French words.  Uncle Peter and Aunt Rachel came up to visit for a night and watched Cal while I went to Manhattan with Mason and two of his good friends, Carthan and Liam.  It was one of the coldest days of the year, but we all bundled up and took the train to Grand Central.  Then walked to see the tree and a couple window decorations, had a hot chocolate break at Starbucks, then headed to the huge Toys R Us in Times Square and took a ride on the ferris wheel there.  We ended with a yummy lunch at Hard Rock  and then back to the train, which I think was his favorite part.

We enjoyed the holidays with friends and family and Santa was very good to all of us.  Mason got more trucks than he can count and Cal is happy with the wooden bus and train.  They were spoiled by Nana and Grandpa with a new easel, wooden table and chairs, toys, clothes, cute personalized towels and a bunch of other things!  They also got some great snow toys and a sled from their North Carolina cousins, which have come in handy with all the snow we’ve gotten!  This is the first winter Mason has really enjoyed the snow and it’s so much fun.  We’ve gone sledding, built snowmen and snow castles and had snow ball fights.  Cal wasn’t too sure about his first adventures in the snow, but did enjoy being pulled along in the sled.

We are looking forward to a great 2011.  Happy New Year!

School

Well the days of Mason crying and not wanting me to leave him at school are over.  He loves it now and even the teachers have remarked about how things have changed.  The other day I was in the classroom for a few minutes and he said to Ms. Eleanne “How come Mommy’s still here?”  I love that he is becoming more independent, but also see how quickly he is growing up and I’m sure in no time won’t want his Mommy around at all…sigh.  I try to remember that as we’re in the middle of serious tantrums!  Mason is also potty trained (except for nap and night) now and it has made things a little easier for Mom with not as many diapers to change.

Cal is getting big too, running all over the place following his big brother around.  He had his 15 month appointment last week and is in the 90th percentile for height and 60th for weight.  He may end up bigger than is brother and be able to get him back for all the poking, pushing, tackling, etc.  Cal continues to be a very happy and easy baby and has started saying a few words too.  He has Mommy and Daddy down and now also says bus, ball, moon, Nana, and Baba (Grandpa).

That’s the latest news on the boys.  We’re gearing up for a fun Christmas season and looking forward to celebrating with friends and family.

Here is Mason’s nursery school photo and they let Cal join for a pic too.  The tree background is a bit corny, but they came out cute!

Fall 2010

The boys have been enjoying the fall weather and especially the leaf piles.  They both love jumping in them and throwing them at each other.  We also had a fun Halloween with Mason’s first time trick or treating and a Halloween party for the whole family at The Boccaccio’s house.  At first Mason was a little skeptical about dressing up and going door to door, but once he got the hang of it and realized the candy he would receive, there was no stopping him.  We down 2 streets with about 10 houses and he was the first of his friends to ring the doorbell at most houses.  Cal didn’t really know what was going on, but enjoyed running around outside with all the big kids.

Pumpkin Picking

We had a great time pumpkin picking at Jones Farm in Shelton, CT.  It was our first time to this farm and they had a huge selection and fun activities for the kids.  Mason and I went through a corn maze that he really enjoyed and they both loved running around through the pumpkin patch and choosing their perfect pumpkins.

First Day of Nursery School

First Day of Nursery School

Originally uploaded by mcclave

Today was Mason’s first day of nursery school at Brookdale School. It was an orientation with parents, so we got to scope out the classroom, meet his 2 teachers, and take stock of all the trucks. He was very excited for his new backpack from Nana and put his Cooper dog inside. We we got to the school he had his own special hook with his name on it and was able to hang the backpack there, which he was very excited about. He was fine playing with all the kids in the classroom and talking a little to his teachers, but wasn’t too happy when they wanted the adults to go into the hall so the teachers could be alone with the kids. He kept following me into the hall and didn’t want to stay, but then he found a huge garbage truck and told me it was ok to leave him. On Thursday he has his first full day (2 1/2 hours) and drop off with no parents, so I’m hoping it goes well. He keeps saying he liked his school and especially the garbage truck! I’m sure we will both shed some tears on Thursday, but I’m so proud of him and know he will have a great experience at Brookdale. Can’t believe my little boy is growing up!

First Steps

Cal gave me a wonderful birthday present by taking his first steps the day before I turned 32.  He has continued to take 2-3 steps a couple times each day since, but prefers crawling at this point.  I’m sure in no time the 2 brothers will be running circles around each other.

Birthday Continued

Here are a few pics from Cal’s (and Uncle Peter’s and Aunt Shannon’s) birthday party in Crosswicks. As you can see, he thoroughly enjoyed his cupcake.

Happy Birthday Cal!

My sweet little baby boy turned 1 on 8/26.  I know everyone says it, but it’s really hard to believe a year has gone by already.  I clearly remember being very pregnant last summer and waiting for him to arrive.  Now he is such a big boy, laughing and babbling all the time and crawling and cruising around the house.  He has started standing for long periods of time, but no steps yet – seems like it will happen soon and then I’m in trouble!  We had a celebration with the family the night before his birthday and then a party with friends at the park yesterday.  Both were a blast!

Cal’s stats at his 1 year doc appt – 32 inches (95%), 22 lbs 12 oz (40%).  He’s both longer and heavier than Mason was at a year and loves to eat!  He ate an entire cupcake at each birthday celebration and is usually finishing off Mason’s meals for him!

Harford Fair

We took a mid-week trip to the lake last week to go to the Harford Fair with Mason and Cal.  Nana, Grandpa and Uncle Mark were also there and we had a great time at the fair and swimming in the lake.  We have wonderful memories of attending the fair as kids and it was fun to bring Mason and Cal.  Mason loved all the animals and the merry-go-round.  In a few years I’m sure they bothl will get a kick out of the demolition derby and tractor pull!
